Colors  - Laleh - Boom

Ok, just look at that album cover. Laleh looks like an origami queen. Anyway, back on topic. Colors is one of many songs of Laleh's I've had on repeat at various times over the past couple years. Her stuff it just so interesting and catchy. It's dark and broody while still sounding light and fun at times. This was the first song that really got me into Laleh's music. Definitely one you don't want to miss.

Brother - Lord Huron - Lonesome Dreams

Brother has a Native American vibe and tells a strange and ominous story. I have no idea what that story really is, but I like the way it sounds! For some reason I just imagine two trees chatting away before being cut down but they're totally ready to fight back. Kind of like the tree guys from The Lord of The Rings.

Hearts A Mess  - Gotye - Like Drawing Blood

Remember that song Somebody That I Used To Know? Gotye sang that. It's a shame his other music never gained the attention that song did. Hearts A Mess is an earlier single of his and it's so good, as most of his stuff is. The song has a melancholy sound that meanders along most of the way through, the second half is where his vocals really cut through with a strength that counters the almost lazy feel of the music. Also, I can't get enough of his rough upper register.

Olivia - Canyon City - Midnight Waves

Here's the deal, I've never actually even listened to any other Canyon City song. I found this song in a random playlist and loved the chorus so much it became a staple in my road trip jams. It's so mellow and just a great one to zone out with.

Transformation - Phil Collins - Brother Bear Soundtrack

This song is EPIC. It's the music during the transformation scene from human to bear in the movie Brother Bear. A great film that doesn't get the credit it deserves IMO, you will cry actual tears when a heartbreaking secret is revealed mid way through the movie. The song was written by Phil Collins and performed by the Bulgarian Women's Choir, in the Inupiat language. Sometimes songs are just better when you can belt out something that, to you, makes absolutely no sense.

God Help The Outcasts - Heidi Mollenhauer - The Hunchback of Notre Dame Soundtrack

The Hunchback of Notre Dame is one of my favorite Disney movies(Beauty and The Beast and Mulan are the other two if you're wondering).  The music in it is so well written with incredible lyrics and this song is my pick for the best in the film. It'll throw some conviction at you faster than most sermons.

You might be wondering why there are 6 songs this week and why TWO of them are even Disney related...

Well, that's because I am currently at Walt Disney World. I wrote this post on the bus, in line for a ride, and during lunch.  One of the Disney photographers made us give a thumbs up for the picture, it turned out just as awkward looking as it felt.

Catch you next week.
